So I've been having crazy dreams lately but one of the worst things you can write about on a blog are your ridiculous dreams. That hasn't stopped me before, so I just want to make quick note of a dream I had this weekend, in which I wrote an essay on why Full House is the worst television show of all time.

The essay seemed hilarious and I was probably laughing in my sleep. All I can remember of it now, though, is a disparaging remark about John Stamos' rock-cred and the following bit of Confucian-like wisdom:

"Dave Coulier: Man of a thousand voices, and zero humor."

It seems the Turkish DVD bootleg of Brokeback Mountain has a title that translates as "Faggot Cowboys." Insensitive, but also inaccurate: As a link from G's blog points out, they're actually bisexual.

Still, this would have made an excellent title. "I love 'Faggot Cowboys!'" proclaims Leonard Maltin. "Two thumbs way up for 'Faggot Cowboys!'" says Ebert & Roeper. "'Faggot Cowboys' made our day!" raves the New York Times.

In the UK, of course, the title would more likely imply a film about the Marlboro Man.

Haven't tried it yet. But I will play around with it later in the week. I am one of many (I suspect) Mac switchers who still use a Microsoft mouse because they just can't quite get used to the Mac scrolling (and, especially, love to right click). The scrolling difference doesn't bother me as much these days, but when I go from InDesign at work to InDesign at home, I find a significant difference - and I prefer the work scroll.

Right now, though, I'm not in Hobo, I'm posting on a PC and the scrolling on XP is driving me crazy, so maybe this won't help after all.

Once upon a time, there was a show. It was called
.

The makers of this show decided to hook male viewers (like me) by peppering last week's Super Bowl with ads for it. Then, once those male viewers (like me) decided to check it out, they began the show by putting the three central female characters in the shower together for the opening scene. They washed eachother with sponges and white, bubbly soap. Later, the hottest of the three actresses dragged a doctor into a janitor's closet and took off her shirt. TV remotes (like mine) gathered dust.

They also roped in music fans (like me) by featuring the premiere of that new Stipe song (see earlier post) and drew fans of Christina Ricci (like me) by casting her in a guest spot.

The show was excellent - and the ratings went through the roof.

In another brilliant move, they ended the episode on a cliffhanger.

I fucking hate TV (especially when I like it).

So I have long despised my iPod earbuds. Lately, they've been giving me tiny electric shocks, especially when I'm walking outside with my coat on (as a result I have shelved them indefinitely and am saving up for a nice pair of over-the-ear noise-cancelling ones).

Yes, whenever movement caused any tugging on the earbuds, they would crackle and occasionally I would feel a kind of electric pulse, though nothing I thought was serious. The other day - the last day I used them - I got a very noticeable electric shock after using them on the walk to the office and then touching my computer to turn it on. Again, nothing real serious, but certainly remarkable. Anyway the day wore on, and I eventually forgot about it.

However, when I went to take the PATH train that evening, my MetroCard kept getting spit back up by the machine. I took it over to the subway, where they have the swipe to check your balance. "See Agent" it told me. So I brought it to the booth attendant and he tested it. "That's strange," he said. "It has a balance on it, but it won't read properly."

He gave me a form and an envelope and told me to mail it to the MTA and ask for a refund if it still wasn't working the next day. It wasn't and I sent in the form.

The MetroCard was in my coat pocket, which I was wearing when I got the shock from the computer. Now, I passed science by humming Monty Python tunes and guessing randomly, so maybe I'm way off base here. But could there be a connection?

It is definitely possible to die in your dreams and not die in real life. I full out died in my dream last night and I'm still here this morning (I think).

I was up late watching a 9/11 conspiracy documentary called Loose Change (part one & part two).

Anyway, I fell asleep around 3 a.m. or so and then dreamed a long, very vivid dream that meandered through a number of scenes, all centering around a party I was throwing. Rudy and I went out to get beer but he was dead drunk already. We couldn't find a liquor store so we decided to head back.

That's when we saw a bomb appear in the sky a block or two behind us and we started to run. But moments later another bomb began to fall a block ahead of us as well and we were quickly consumed by smoke and debris. At first I wasn't sure if I was dead, but then time had passed and I could somehow see a documentary about the Hoboken bombings. As it mapped out where the bodies were found, sure enough, there was my name on the screen for a split second. I had headed for an alleyway off a large square but hadn't made it.

All of a sudden the documentary stopped and I was standing in a hallway in front of an old Italian woman holding a baby. I looked down at my body and it was more like an outline of a body than an actual body, like the shape of it was flickering in and out as if it were just a memory. I asked the old woman if I could go back. I don't remember what she said to me, but I quickly said, "I guess that's not a good idea" and she nodded in agreeement. My last thought was that if I had tried to go back, I would be trapped in my buried body. Then I woke up, competely awake.

I was pretty well rested, too. So after I making sure I still had a working body, I got up and put on The Ricky Gervais Show and had a good laugh.

Air America Podcasts No Longer Free

Been enjoying my free podcasts of The Majority Report and The Mike Malloy Show. Now, apparently, it'll cost $70 a year to get them. I can see why they need to charge, but $70!

You know, I currently listen to about 50 podcasts. What's going to happen when all these podcasters start trying to make money? If I have to pay $70 just to get TWO of them, what about the other 48? That's 24 x 70 + the Air America 70 = $1,750 a year! Not good. I'd rather they stuck ads in there to keep it free. Otherwise, podcasting is on the outs as far as I'm concerned.

Video about hearing loss and iPods. Ever since my ear started hurting, I've been making sure to keep the iPod at lower levels. I always felt that it was less painful when I had it at 50-70%. Well, turns out I was on the right track. iPods (or any music player) can cause permanent hearing damage at full or close to full volume. Better to keep it 75% or less. Another reason to get noise-cancelling headphones.

Steph and I saw Jeff Tweedy tonight (well, last night) at BMCC. Not only was the show free, but we had front row seats! I took a video of the final song of the night (The Lonely 1). If you wanna see it, drop me a line.

Beermaking

So we made a batch of beer this weekend. It should be fermenting nicely in my parents' basement right now. I took photos to document it, but wasted my monthly upload allowance on Flickr by posting all those moon shots. So stay tuned - the photos will be here soon. So I bought a USB mic tonight.

I recorded my first stab at a podcast. It's called "The Matty Question of the Day." It's just under two minutes long. I have no idea where to upload it. If you want to hear it, drop me a line. I won't send it to you, but I'd like to know anyway.

Later, I recorded a 15-minute semi-podcast. It is still a work in progress. It's an audio version of the nominee list for the 2005 Matty Album of the Year. I will smooth out the rough edges (there are many, and I will probably only be able to smooth it out a bit) and add and/or subtract to it as necessary. Expect a copy in your emailbox around Thanksgiving. It will be a large file. Not sure if email is the best way to send it out, but I don't want to post it on the net due to licensing issues. Advice appreciated.

Serendipity

Jen and I had dinner last night with Becca at Serendipity. Then Jen got on a train at Grand Central, Becca took the 1/9 back uptown and I went to the ice rink at Central Park and froze to death.

We ate way too much. Even I was full.

Jen and I had spent the afternoon watching little kids trick-or-treating up and down Washington Street. Notable costumes: home-made tree, Elmo, French maid, policewoman, Where's Waldo?, Nutella jar, one family went by as various members of the Pittsburgh Steelers. I thought of taking pictures but I don't want to have to go door-to-door introducing myself every time I move to a new neighborhood.

(Who knew there were so many kids here? And they're pretty much wearing the same costumes we did back in the day. Okay, so there are some Power Rangers here and there, but the old standards remain: Batman, Spiderman, Freddy Krueger, Star Wars characters, not to mention the real throwbacks like witches, princesses and zombies.)

I did take pictures of Jen eating a salad. And there's a couple of Jen and I standing in front of Serendipity that Becca took and one of Becca and Jen with this massive chocolate drink that apparently was made famous by the John Cusack movie.

This blog entry is entirely too bloggy.
